Blog over Profetie

Profetie is een belangrijk onderdeel van de Bijbel. God gebruikt het om toekomstige gebeurtenissen, die Zijn doel zullen bewerkstelligen, vooruit te tonen. Bijvoorbeeld, voorspelde Hij aan Adam en Eva dat de zonde uiteindelijk zou overwonnen worden. Eveneens, gaf hij profetie aan Abraham om aan te tonen dat er één zou komen te zijn (de heer Jezus Christus) die zegen aan de mensen van Abraham zou geven. God voorspelde dat Abraham zijn nakomelingen deel zouden gaan uit maken van een groot geslacht dat als Gods Volk ook de zegeningen van God zou mogen dragen. God voorspelde of profeteerde ook aan David om aan te tonen dat er een groter koning voor Israël zou komen en dat de God zijn Vader zou zijn. Er zijn profetieën in de Bijbel die nog niet zijn vervuld, maar God geeft een verslag van dergelijke gebeurtenissen zodat wij er zeker van kunnen zijn dat, wanneer wij de voorspelde tekens zien, wij er bewust van mogen zijn dat die voorspelde Eindtijd zal komen. In al die door God gemaakte voorspellingen mogen wij vertrouwen stellen. In de vroeger gemaakte voorspellingen die opgetekend zijn in de Heilige Schrift, het Oude en het Nieuwe Testament, kunnen wij zien hoe God telkens Zijn Woord hield en de berichte voorspellingen steeds zijn uitgekomen.

Ook nu zullen wij er nog op aan kunnen dat God Zijn Woord heeft gegeven om stand te houden en Zijn belofte zal nakomen. De in zeer vervlogen tijden gemaakte beloften heeft God nog niet vergeten. Hij wil namelijk dat Zijn voornemens vervuld zullen worden Zijn vooropgestelde doel bewerkstelligd zal worden.

De profetieën tonen aan dat God Zijn woord houdt – en dit is een voorbeeld van Zijn gezag, en waarom wij in Hem zouden moeten vertrouwen.

Er hebben doorheen de jaren steeds mensen zich uitgegeven als profeten. Om te weten of zij werkelijk profetieën konden verkondigen, kan men best na gaan of hun voorspellingen ook werkelijk zijn uitgekomen. Meerderen hebben geprobeerd de toekomst te voorspellen maar zijn er niet in geslaagd. Anderen probeerden in vage termen de toekomst te voorspellen of weer te geven wat zij dachten dat er zou gaan gebeuren. Maar ook zij faalden om juiste voorspellingen te brengen.

Als wij echter in de Heilige Schrift de voorspellingen bekijken zijn deze altijd mooi uitgekomen. Opvallend daarbij is dat er regelmatig zelfs namen in de voorspellingen voor kwamen die in de tijd van de profetie helemaal niet gebruikelijk waren maar toen de voorspelde tijd daar kwam deze toch zo voor kwamen. Voor de Bijbel om de toekomst in dergelijk detail te voorspellen, en deze op een nauwkeurige manier te laten vervullen, toont aan dat slechts God dergelijke dingen kan doen en de reden voor dit is dat Hij controle van wereldgebeurtenissen heeft.

   What do Harold Camping, Hal Lindsay, John Wesley, Martin Luther, John Calvin, and Saint Augustine  have in common?  They all made failed predictions regarding the nature and timing of Christ’s return.

Oh Christians will tell you that they are, if you know how to interpret the Bible.

   Throughout the New Testament, the end of the world is prophesied as being very near, at hand, to be witnessed by those living at the time. Paul often told the people he preached to that they would be witnesses to Jesus’ second coming. They are all long gone.
3. Prophecy Fail
   Probably the most common argument I hear for the divine nature of the bible is that it makes prophecies that have later come true.
   When prompted for an example, 99 times out of 100, they’ll cite the fact that Isreal is now a state (Ezekiel 34:13). And they actually say it seriously, as if that prophecy isn’t completely self-fulfilling.
