Micah’s Forty Years

Because God said:

“According to the days of thy coming out of the land of Egypt will I show unto him marvellous things” (Mic. vii. 15),

it is no warrant for reading into the statement a period of forty years. It is all a question of what God will do, and not how long He will be doing it. In fact,

“the times and the seasons”

have disproved the suggestion of forty years, by removing the “chronological need” (as it was termed) for the forty years’ interval. The very context shows that Micah is dealing with actions and not periods,

“The nations shall see and be confounded at all their might” (Mic. vii. 16).
