When we die we all come to decay. Our life is finished, and we shall not be able to think or to do anything. We all disintegrate into dust. All the dead in the graves shall be called, by the return of Jesus, to stand up and come out of the sepulchres, so that Jesus shall judge the living and the dead.
It is known that
“the ordinary progression moves from death to the dissolution of the body to the fading of memory of that individual, to the disappearance of any living memory,
to their ultimate final oblivion of being completely forgotten and leaving a world that is effectively without evidence of their ever having existed.”
We are all mortal beings and cannot escape death. Jehovah God gave Christ the authority to judge the living and the dead. By the grace of God people shall be raised to the newness of life. All those who may participate in the life-giving miracle of Jesus his defeat of death shall find themselves in a restored body.
“19 For the condition of the children of men, and the condition of beasts are even as one condition unto them. As the one dieth, so dieth the other: for they have all one breath, and there is no excellency of man above ye beast: for all is vanity. 20 All go to one place, and all was of the dust, and all shall return to the dust.” (Ec 3:19-20 GenevaBible)
“For the living know that they shall die, but the dead know nothing at all: neither have they anymore a reward: for their remembrance is forgotten.” (Ec 9:5 GenevaBible)
“ All that thine hand shall find to do, do it with all thy power: for there is neither work nor invention, nor knowledge, nor wisdom in the grave whither thou goest.” (Ec 9:10 GenevaBible)
“For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall praise thee?” (Ps 6:5 GenevaBible)
“ All they that be fat in the earth, shall eat and worship: all they that go down into the dust, shall bow before him, even he that cannot quicken his own soul.” (Ps 22:29 GenevaBible)
“ Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into ye world, and death by sin, and so death went over all men: in whom all men have sinned.” (Ro 5:12 GenevaBible)
“ For if by the offence of one, death reigned through one, much more shall they which receive that abundance of grace, and of that gift of that righteousness, reign in life through one, that is, Jesus Christ.” (Ro 5:17 GenevaBible)
“5 For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and man, which is the man Christ Jesus, 6 Who gave himself a ransom for all men, to be that testimony in due time,” (1Ti 2:5-6 GenevaBible)
“And he is the reconciliation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.” (1Jo 2:2 GenevaBible)
“ For God so loved the world, that he hath given his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him, should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (Joh 3:16 GenevaBible)
“2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God ye Father unto sanctification of ye Spirit, through obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied unto you. 3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,” (1Pe 1:2-3 GenevaBible)
We should know that it is a necessity for the corruptible to put on itself incorruption, and we as mortal people have to make the right choice in our life. Before we die we should have chosen for Christ and should have made work to follow God’s commandments so that we could put on ourself immortality. Only then at the return of Christ when he shall have judged the living and the dead then will occur the Word that has been written, “The death was swallowed down unto victory!”
“I charge thee therefore before God, and before the Lord Jesus Christ, which shall judge the quick and dead at that his appearing, and in his kingdom,” (2Ti 4:1 GenevaBible)
“ For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son,” (Joh 5:22 GenevaBible)
“ He that refuseth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, it shall judge him in the last day.” (Joh 12:48 GenevaBible)
“53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption: and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible hath put on incorruption, and this mortal hath put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up into victory.” (1Co 15:53-54 GenevaBible)
From some of our 19th-century writings, looking at what shall come in the future.
Answers Concerning Prophecies and things future #32
Identity in the Resurrection
Beyond all doubt, in the Age to Come, we shall possess our former identity, although not made up of precisely the same atoms.
And why not?
Not a particle of what there was of us seven years ago remains today, and yet there are the scars we had seven years ago; and the same thoughts.
So, in the sweet by and bye, we shall feel we are the same individuals, plus incorruptibility and immortality; young as when called by death, but with an ever spiritual mind; or, maybe, old, but minus all infirmities. If not identical, how could they be said to
“have come out of great tribulation”? (Rev. vii.14).
And how could they say:
“Thou hast washed usfrom our sins”? (Rev. i. 5),
“Redeemed us from our sins”? (Rev. v. 10).
The saved ones will be the identical men and women of bygone days, but saved; that is, perfected in mind and body.
