Asking to come under the Wings of God

In Belgium there is a big problem for those who believe in only one True God. Besides the Jehovah’s Witnesses, there are not so many serious Bible Students living close together. Speaking in Western continental terms, most earnest Bible Students live far apart to meet regularly and attend a service together. With that, it often happens that during the 14 Nisan celebrations about forty people are present in the service while otherwise only one man and a horse’s head are present. This is a sad thing and after several years of trying to attract more people, the lack of interest is not only very sad but also depressing.

The isolation, or the lack of regular contacts with like-minded people, makes us sometimes wonder whether we are doing the right thing and whether God appreciates our work. We know that it is He who draws people, but when we look around us, we see few who are attracted to Jehovah, the Most High God above all gods. We do notice that people gather around a lot of other gods, of which football and cycling idols are the greatest worshipped next to the money. People are more likely to go to sports games than to a prayer service.

There is little room for God in our bourgeois world. We do not get much sympathy with our words about Jesus and his God. In fact, people often mistakenly think that we too are Jehovah’s Witnesses and do not want to know about us. Instead of listening to us first and believing us when we say we have nothing to do with those Witnesses. But they don’t want to give time to that, because they see it as wasted time.

There are very little time and very little room for God in this world. In fact, we find very many churches that do provide services, but wherein those services themselves, very little time is spent on the Word of God. The majority of the time is consumed by all kinds of ritual gestures. It is often those rites that attract people. Burning candles, celebrating first communions and solemn communions, just like wedding services in a church, even by people who do not or hardly believe in God. And if they still have a belief in a god, they usually take Jesus as their god and Mary as the ‘Mother of God‘.

When we look at all this, we find ourselves in a vacuum. The emptiness of this unbelieving world. We find ourselves there as an individual. It seems as if we are all on our own. And with years of preaching effort, that comes as a nuisance gnawing at our insides. Then it is sometimes difficult for us, and we must admit that we still feel some discouragement there.

We keep feeling like we have to go to war. A spiritual battle that demands a lot from us. This makes it clear that we cannot do without the help of God. We desperately need them. It is therefore so important that like-minded believers also let others know that they believe and want to join in that fight for the faith. if we let each other know that we have the same faith, we shouldn’t feel so alone. Because even though we live far apart, we can give each other a sign of life, but even more, a sign of faith that can give us the courage to continue in that faith.

So let us not fail to make it known to others that we believe in That One True God and in His sent Son, who died for us. So do not fail to let others hear your opinion and to see that you also go for that faith according to the Bible and not according to the many false doctrines that man has accumulated over the years. Letting others know that you are following Bible Truth will help those who do not feel alone. Because of this they will feel supported and find the courage to continue to trust in That One True God, Who is open to those believers to lead them further through the wilderness.

We must realise that many people are looking for the true faith. For them, we must be ready to show them the way that leads to God.

Everyone can use encouragement, so be someone who can encourage others to move on and continue to trust in God, Who is the best refuge but also the strongest rock in the surf.

“The LORD recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings thou hast come to trust.” (Ru 2:12 Webster)

“1 ¶ Shiggaion of David, which he sang to the LORD, concerning the words of Cush the Benjaminite. O LORD my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me: 2 Lest he tear my soul like a lion, rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.” (Ps 7:1-2 Webster)

“They cried to thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.” (Ps 22:5 Webster)

“The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my preserver; thou savest me from violence.” (2Sa 22:3 Webster)

“As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.” (2Sa 22:31 Webster)

“Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.” (Ps 2:12 Webster)

“Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD.” (Ps 4:5 Webster)

“But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.” (Ps 5:11 Webster)

“2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. 3 I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from my enemies.” (Ps 18:2-3 Webster)

“23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way. 24 Though he should fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.” (Ps 37:23-24 Webster)

“1 ¶ In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion. 2 Deliver me in thy righteousness, and cause me to escape: incline thy ear to me, and save me. 3 Be thou my strong habitation, to which I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress.” (Ps 71:1-3 Webster)

“5 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. 6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless return with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.” (Ps 126:5-6 Webster)
