The Righteous Voice
Obeying the right Voice
Lots of people do want to follow “the popular course.” In the history of time we have seen many people who preferred to follow their own thoughts and their own stubborn will.
Jeremiah presented a contrast between those who had “not obeyed the voice of Jehovah” and those who wanted to obey Him. (Jeremiah 3:25; 7:28; 26:13; 38:20; 43:4, 7) We individually should analyse where we stand in this regard.
Our determination to obey the voice of Jehovah helps to move us away from the fangs of evil and temptation. But we can strengthen our resolve to obey God’s Voice. Many men of God or prophets have shown the way and written down the Words of God and the influence that Word of God had on people and on the happenings in time.
Jeremiah reveals that we should recognise Jehovah as the Maker of the earth by His power. The One Elohim is the Universal Ruler, the Sustainer of life — our life and the Holy One who firmly establishes the productive land by his wisdom.
1 Hear the word which יהוה {Jehovah} speaks to you, O house of Yisra’ĕl. 2 Thus said יהוה{Jehovah}, “Do not learn the way of the gentiles,{1} and do not be awed by the signs of the heavens, for the gentiles are awed by them.{2} {Footnotes: 1Lev. 18:3, Dt. 12:30 & 18:9, Ezek. 11:12 & 20:32, Eph. 4:17, 1 Peter 4:3. 2Dt. 4:19 & 17:3.} (Jeremiah 10:1-2 The Scriptures 1998+)
6 There is none like You, O יהוה {Jehovah}. You are great, and great is Your Name in might. 7 Who would not fear You, O Sovereign of the nations? For this is Your due, for among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their reigns, there is none like You. (Jeremiah 10:6-7 The Scriptures 1998+)
As in the Old Times if individual Jews were to receive Jehovah’s favour and protection, they had to repent and start obeying Him, we too today have to make the right choice and go for Jehovah God. It are we ourselves who have to make up our own mind, like those people in ancient times had also to choose for their false gods or for the One and Only God, Jehovah.
Jehovah is the Sovereign of the universe. We should fear him above all other rulers. He has the absolute right to call on us to comply with His wise commands, which are really in our permanent best interests.
God’s protective care of his people should not be viewed as limited to the past. Even now, Jehovah protects obedient ones from spiritual danger. As a high wall protected ancient cities from attack, God’s law protects those who study His Word and constantly apply it.
“But this word I did command them, saying, ‘Obey My voice,{1} and I shall be your Elohim, and you be My people. And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, so that it be well with you.’ {Footnote: 1Abraham did so (Gen. 26:5), and יהוה again laid down this condition for Yisra’ĕl to be His people (Ex. 19:5), and the same applies to us (Jn. 3:36, Rom. 6:16, Heb. 4:11, Heb. 5:9, Rev. 22:14).} (Jeremiah 7:23 The Scriptures 1998+)
In order to do God’s will, Jesus his disciples prayed also to Jehovah, like their teacher had showed them how to do: “Grant your slaves to keep speaking your word with all boldness.” What was Jehovah’s immediate response? “The place in which they were gathered together was shaken; and they were one and all filled with the holy spirit and were speaking the word of God with boldness.”
29 “And now, יהוה {Jehovah}, look on their threats, and give to Your servants all boldness to speak Your word, 30 by stretching out Your hand for healing, and signs, and wonders to take place through the Name of Your set-apart Servant יהושע {Jeshua}.” 31 And when they had prayed, the place where they came together was shaken. And they were all filled with the Set-apart Spirit, and they spoke the word of Elohim with boldness. (Acts 4:29-31 The Scriptures 1998+)
Nothing can stop God’s will from being accomplished. (Isaiah 55:11) No matter how great the odds, no matter how powerful the opponent, if we raise our voice to God in prayer, we can be sure that He will grant us the strength to keep on speaking His word with boldness. Then we only do have to listen to that Voice from heaven and do what that Voice requests us to do.
