Shiloh

“The Sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.” (Gen.xlix. 10)

As it thus reads, the meaning is not very clear. Dr.Thomas renders it thus:

“The Sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, for that Shiloh shall come, and unto him shall the gathering of the people be”.

“Between his feet”, reads in the “Peshito” “among his posterity”; and “gathering of” is rendered in the R.V., “obedience of the peoples”, all of which makes evident how full of prophecy the verse is.

“Shiloh” means,

“He who shall be sent”.
